My Report - Don’t “Tick” me off! I Might Write About You!

September 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Welcome to Marketing Search News

As the name suggests (but to explain further) we will be constantly searching the Marketing World for topics of interest to you as Entrepreneurs.
I expect you’ll be getting a good piece of my mind as well, and I hope (and invite) you to share yours as well.

It’s taken us awhile to get this blog rolling, and truly it’s going to be a collaborative event, with contributions throughout the categories by my colleagues within Success Patrol, and from accepted submissions by other Marketers.

(YES - You are invited to submit articles to be published in the categories section, and of course make comments on my Editorials)

With so many things going on in my world, the delay on implementing this blog can be explained simply as: So much to do - so little time.
Many of us starting out in the marketing world are familiar with this phenomenon, trying to balance work, family, and the dream to make life better.

Needless to say, I hope what you find here will be interesting enough to add us to your favorites and feeds and to keep coming back!

Now to my REPORT:

After reading about the NEWS this morning ( Clashes in Myanmar and the 9 deaths including photographer Kenji Nagal - Waning support in the US for the “liquid death” Lethal Injections for taking too long - Chinese Toxic Toys for our Toddlers - and Self Immolation by teenagers using AXE BODY SPRAY ) you could say that I was already in a heightened state of “sensitivity” (Another way of saying that I’m already Ticked)

Then reading through my e-mail I note an article post of interest regarding Affiliate Marketing for Newbies, so I went to investigate. (FYI - Success Patrol is all about teaching Affiliate Marketing to new AND old marketers, and I’m always on the hunt for information that is related to the field)

Overall it was an average post, quite likely a re-written article, very general in nature and with only a few kernals of useful information for affiliate marketers.
That’s fairly common in fact, marketers are increasingly using article marketing as a way to attract attention to their offerings.

The quality of the article isn’t what “P”d me off though.

What got to me is something I call (and you’re familiar with this term) the Wolf in Sheeps Clothing. The “article” is simply a thinly veiled attempt to “Fleece” the unwary (pardon the pun) ;-)
The author includes some links to well screened affiliations, 1) to a domain service with a +$13 pricetag, and 2) to an affiliate info-product also with a high price of $47
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not against someone using articles in their marketing programs, in fact that is part of a WINNING marketing strategy (and perhaps if the writer had mentioned that in the article I might have been more lenient), but that aspect was omitted from this piece (of crap)

What got me upset was that not only was the writer cold and calculating in targeting inexperienced marketers with inflated prices on commonplace products but that the writer ALSO had the gall to end the piece with a statement of affection to their readers!
THAT’S what really got me.
The charade got me. The blatant attempt to sell inflated products to inexperienced marketers, further harming them AND the reputation of Internet Marketers everywhere. Then the BIG LIE, that the writer really cares about the reader, when in fact they are only interested in making a profit!

You might be asking why I don’t reveal the writer so you can be aware and avoid them, but the sad fact is folks that there are LOTS of the same “marketing ploys” out there, which is why Internet Marketing has such a bad reputation with the general population. I’d be unfairly fingering one cold heart from a sea of many.
So my intent with this post is to warn everyone, especially those new to marketing. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Don’t just accept the price quoted on any product or service and search around. Use Google ™ Yahoo ™ or any of the many other search facilities. Protect yourself from the “Wolves” of the internet
